About the Juneau Maritime Festival

Juneau’s Annual Maritime Festival is the focus of a complete guide from our sister hotel Frontier Suites, helping you plan your visit. Some key points to be aware of leading into your Juneau travels include:

  • The festival takes place May 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • This year marks the 15th anniversary of the festival
  • The point of the festival is to celebrate Juneau’s economic relationship with the seas
  • Activities vary based on the vendors that take part, but classic activities include a kids area, photo booth, tug-o-war contest, live music, raffle, harbor cruises, and food vendors
  • Entering the festival has no cost, but you’ll see opportunities to donate to the cause or participate in things like the harbor cruise, which helps pay the costs of the festival

Where to Stay for Juneau’s Annual Maritime Festival

Once you’ve decided that you want to visit Juneau for the Maritime Festival, it’s time to decide where you’ll stay. There are several excellent hotels within walking distance of the plaza where the event takes place.

1. Juneau Hotel

  • On-site fitness facility
  • Fish and game freezer
  • One-bedroom suites with one or two queen beds
  • Full kitchen in every suite, making for comfortable homelike stays
  • In-suite washer and dryer

Locally owned and operated, Juneau Hotel offers an authentic Alaskan experience. The hotel features many amenities you won’t find elsewhere, including a washer and dryer in every suite and a full kitchen.

Some key features that people highlight in reviews include the large rooms, friendly staff, location and ability to walk to many downtown establishments, and the cleanliness. Many reviewers share that it has a “very Alaskan vibe.”

2. Four Points by Sheraton Juneau

Distance to Juneau Maritime Festival: .3-mile walk

Amenities:

  • 24-hour fitness center
  • Contemporary accommodations
  • Digital check-in
  • Mobile key
  • On-site dry cleaning service

Travelers who preview a more contemporary atmosphere compared with the Alaskan charm you’ll find with the locally owned hotels will enjoy the Four Points by Sheraton Juneau.

Some features that guests appreciate include the easy walking distance to many attractions and good eateries, and options for ocean or mountain views.

But they also don’t appreciate that the rooms don’t have a microwave, the carpets are stained, the rooms are sometimes not cleaned well, uncomfortable beds, no air conditioning, and high prices for a hotel that feels more like a budget hotel.

3. Ramada by Wyndham

Distance to Juneau Maritime Festival: 6 minutes via the city bus or a 13-minute, .6-mile walk

Amenities:

  • 24-hour front desk
  • Pet friendly
  • On-site bar and restaurant
  • Free parking
  • Accessibility features
  • Meeting and event space

If after a busy day of exploring Juneau you’d like to kick back and eat dinner at a restaurant just a few feet from your hotel, this is the option for you. With an on-site restaurant, you can relax knowing that you’ll have everything you need close by.

Reviewers share that the hotel rooms are spacious, overlook the water, the beds are comfortable, the on-site restaurant is convenient, the atmosphere is charming, and the location is convenient and within walking distance to many outstanding restaurants.

But other users share that the hotel was dirty, the hotel is overpriced, rooms are noisy due to proximity to the main road, experience with the front desk staff is mixed, and the rooms are outdated.

4. Silverbow Inn

Distance to Juneau Maritime Festival: .3-mile walk

Amenities:

  • Complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day
  • Access to evening treats
  • Full breakfast each morning included with your stay
  • Rooftop hot tub
  • Cookie and cocoa happy hour held daily
  • Borrow books and games from the hotel’s library
  • Restaurant and bar on-site
  • Light-blocking shades in rooms for better rest
  • Rooms with views

Silverbow Inn offers a unique hotel experience in Juneau. It is one of the priciest, yet amenity-rich hotels in the area. So if you’re looking for accommodations with the greatest comfort and convenience, look no further than Silverbow.

Customers appreciate the comfortable beds, snacks available throughout the day, delicious coffee, proximity to local restaurants, character compared to the classic stuffy hotel feel, and the boutique-like hotel experience.

Some things that you might find lacking are the limited front desk hours, lack of an elevator, and smaller rooms unless you upgrade to a suite.

5. Baranof Downtown

Distance to Juneau Maritime Festival: .3-mile walk

Amenities:

  • On-site restaurant serving three meals a day
  • 24-hour fitness facility
  • 24-hour front desk
  • Staff fluent in three languages: English, Spanish and Tagalog
  • Adjoining rooms available
  • Various views available including mountain or ocean views
  • Heritage Coffee Company on-site

Customers note the helpful staff, proximity to local restaurants, baggage weigh station and a storied history.

Some detractors of staying at the hotel that customers note include struggles with maintaining a comfortable temperature with no in-room controls, noisy if you have the misfortune of being booked on a streetside room, and overall a rundown hotel.

6. The Alaskan Hotel and Bar

Distance to Juneau Maritime Festival: .2-mile walk

Amenities:

  • On-site bar
  • Lounge
  • Self-service laundry

As the oldest operating hotel in Juneau, it features some neat aspects and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Dating back to the Alaska Gold Rush, the hotel is charming, if that’s the style you’re into.

Customers enjoy the clean rooms, good location, convenience of the on-site bar, good area for Alaskan nightlife, historic building and proximity to attractions,

Other customers note that the rooms are small, shared bathrooms (though some rooms have their own), lack of on-site parking, and overall noise level due to location.

7. Driftwood Lodge

Distance to Juneau Maritime Festival: 7 minutes via the city bus or a 14-minute, .6-mile walk

Amenities:

  • On-site Sandpiper Café
  • Four floor plan options to meet your needs
  • Some rooms come with a kitchenette
  • On-site parking

One thing that visitors appreciate about the Driftwood Lodge is that it is an affordable hotel compared with other downtown Juneau options. While the amenities are not as robust as what you’ll find elsewhere, it’s still a good place to stay for your travels. Customers note the ATM close by and comfortable beds.

But other customers note that the hotel is “shabby” and not the cleanest. Customers have mixed experiences with the staff – some saying the staff was helpful while others found them unaccommodating.
